Family of injured Edo traditional ruler seeks IGP’s intervention
The family of the Enogie of Ukhiri community, HRH Godwin Aigbe, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, to intervene in the alleged plot to obstruct investigation into an attack on a traditional ruler.
In a letter to the Inspector General of Police, the wife of the Enogie, Mrs Stella Aigbe, said the traditional ruler has been in the hospital since December last year as a result of an attack on him by hoodlums over a land dispute.
She called for proper investigation to be carried out on the attempted assassination of her husband.
According to her, the Edo state police command was investigating the matter and had already made some arrests and recovered her husband’s phone from the suspects, who gave a confessional statement of how they were involved in the attack.
She alleged they were shocked that “other culprits, now at large and fearing of being arrested ran to Abuja and brought the Inspector General of Police’s Monitoring Unit led by one ASP Aminu Sokoto and took over the case file from Edo State Police Command and released the suspects that were detained on a court order.”
Also a letter from the chamber of P. T. Osazee to the Inspector General said there was no justification in ordering the Edo State Police Command to transfer the case file to their office in Abuja with the suspects which the court has already ordered their remand in police custody”
Responding, the state Commissioner of Police, Lawal Jimeta said no suspect has been released by the police, adding that he was aware that there was a team from Abuja who were in the state over the matter
The traditional ruler was attacked over a land dispute in December last year by hoodlums after he had raised an alarm of fear of possible attack from a neigbhouring community.
