Nigerian Army sensitises Jos community on Covid-19, other health challenges
A division of the Nigerian Army, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, in collaboration with the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) has launched a campaign to sensitise members of Dadin Kowa community of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Covid-19 and other health challenges.
The campaign also featured a medical outreach to assist members of the community with free medical care services.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Div; Major General Nuhu Angbazo said: ``It is important that the medical outreach continues to enable our society become fully informed about the deadly virus."
He added that apart from sensitising the public on Covid-19, the outreach was also meant to carry out tests on sugar levels, hepatitis and blood pressure.
The National Chairman of APHPN, Prof. Benjamin Ozo Chukwu, said the exercise was part of activities of the 36 Annual General Meeting of the association.
``We decided to conduct this outreach in partnership with the military so as to enlighten our families and the immediate society about the dangers of the recent pandemic outbreak and how members of the public will prevent themselves from the virus."
He said the association initially anticipated about 1,000 beneficiaries but with the turnout, the beneficiaries have exceeded the proposed figure but assured them they would be attended to.
Earlier in his remark, the Plateau State Governor, Simon
Lalong, commended the organisers for choosing to hold the event in the state.
Grace Plangnang, a beneficiary of the programme, thanked the organisers. "I am so much elated to have this event holding here in Dadin Kowa, my community. You can see, I just had my BP tested and I will be enrolling further to the next round of the exercise to test my sugar level."
