Abia Warriors keeper Tambe grateful as he leaves hospital after hoodlums attack

The goalkeeper of Nigeria Profession­al Football League side, Abia Warriors, Charles Tambe who was shot and wounded by hoodlums last Friday has been discharged from hospital.

It will be recalled that the Cameroonia­n goalkeeper was rushed to the University of Ibadan teaching hospital where he was admitted after been attacked by the dare-devil hoodlums.

The towering goalkeeper was attacked in Apata area of Ibadan, Oyo state while observing his personal walk out.

His attackers demanded for his phones and other belongings and after he refused to do their bidding, he was shot in the hand.

However, following the timely response from his club, he was treated and released from hospital on Saturday.

When discharged from hospital, the Cameroonia­n who kept goal for 3SC and Lobi Stars before teaming up with the Umuahia Warriors said, "I am very grateful to God that I am alive today. What happened is just by the grace of the Almighty God.

“I am very much indebted to my club, Abia Warriors FC especially the Chairman Pastor Emeka Inyama who is a father figure to everyone one of us.

“The love in the club is second to none and I really appreciate them. I'm also grateful to all Nigerians for their concern. I am really grateful to everyone" he concluded.

The shot stopper remains optimistic that he would be back to action immediatel­y the COVID 19 pandemic is over.

The attack on Tambe brings to three the number of misfortune­s that have befallen players in the NPFL since the league went on indefinite break.

It will be recalled that on the same day that Enugu Rangers lost their star player Ifeanyi George in a ghastly motor accident, Enyimba FC midfield maestro, Dayo Ojo was kidnapped while travelling to Aba.
