Again, Jos community cries over 2 months’ power outage
Asection of Anguwan Rogo community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, has decried power outage resulting from a faulty transformer installed in the area by Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED).
According to the community, for more than two months now, power has been seized in the area, adding that this was the third time the transformer was developing a problem and nothing tangible was done to address the issue.
Malam Zubairu Shehu, the Chairman, Security Committee of Anguwan Rogo/Anguwan Rimi, who spoke on behalf of the community, said the transformer had been having problems for some years and needed to be fixed urgently.
“The power outage in the area has been our source of concern. Light serves as a security to the community where criminals can easily be seen. More often, they (criminals) use the opportunity of power outage to commit nefarious acts in the area.
“I can recall vividly that this transformer has developed problem almost three times now but nothing concrete has been done to tackle the problem,” he said.
While emphasising on the significance of the power to the economic activities of the area, Malam Shehu appealed to JED to provide a new transformer to enable them to have constant electricity in the area.
When contacted on the development, the Head of Corporate Communication of the company, Dr. Elijah
Adkole said technicians of the company were handling the problem.
“When something of that nature occurs, we send our technical team to diagonise the problem. If is something that can’t be repaired at once, we remove it for proper diagnosis. We are not sleeping on it. Removing it is an indication of the response given to it. As soon as we are through, we will return it,’’ he said.
