After president’s warning, security chiefs plan new strategies

- By Ronald Mutum

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, yesterday, met with all the service chiefs as well as heads of security and intelligence agencies over security situation in some parts of the country.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operation, General John Enenche, in a statement, said the meeting dwelled on developing and mapping out new strategies to promptly tackle banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other criminal activities, particularly in the northwest, northeast and north-central.

He said the meeting was to re-strategize and enhance existing synergy among all security agencies to address the lingering security challenges in the country. President Muhammadu Muhammadu had last week warned that he would no longer take excuses from the security agencies.

Enenche said the meeting, well attended by heads of security architecture, noted that essential consultations had been made with relevant stakeholders across the country with a view to collaborating with the military and security agencies to promptly address the security challenges and bring respite to the regions.

He said the CDS noted that security is everyone’s business and solicited the cooperation of all well-meaning Nigerians for the Armed Forces and security agencies in tackling the security challenges in Nigeria “in order to speedily restore sanity to the troubled regions.”
