Deafening explosions in Zamfara forest scares farmers

Sounds of earth-shaking explosions inside a forest in Zamfara State in the early hours of yesterday have scared away farmers while working on their farms, residents told Daily Trust.

The explosions, which were heard inside a forest around Rukudawa community, situated just 7 kilometres east of Zurmi town, Zurmi Local Government headquarte­rs, were very deafening, according to locals around the area.

The Chief Magistrate Court I judge, Samaila Kakale Mungadi, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, has ordered that Kabir Hassan, 28, be remanded in police custody for the alleged rape of 15-yearold girl.

The police prosecutor, Sergent Muntari Mati, told the court that the defendant lured were shaken, threatenin­g to blow off the rooftops.

“Thereafter, the sound of the explosions ceased. We got set and went to our farms, and around 9 am, we began to hear more of the sounds of the explosions. We heard the sound of a fighter jet hovering around the area.

“We became highly terrified and hurriedly left our farms alongside dozens of other farmers. We suspect that it might be an aerial bombardmen­t of bandits’ locations around the area by the Nigerian Airforce,” he said.

The Nigerian Airforce in Gusau could not be reached for comment up to the time of filing this report. his victim into uncomplete­d building in Kamba town of Wandi Local Government Area.

He said the defendant gave the sum of N200 to his victim after he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her. He said the offence is punishable under section 283 of the CPC law.

The case has been adjourned to July 2, for further mention.
