COVID-19: Zamfara begins lessons via e-learning system

- From Shehu Umar, Gusau

Zamfara State government, through the State Universal Basic Education Board and the Ministry of Education, is supporting the production and airing of lessons via the Zamfara State Radio and Television and NTA Gusau for its students and pupils.

The objective of the programme is to keep children busy with their books instead of staying idle while schools remained closed in order to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state.

Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Maradun, said the idea of the e-learning was to assist children to continue their education at home as a result of COVID-19 lockdown.

According to him, the exercise will hold at different hours everyday through the news media stations.

The chairman said already, SUBEB had expended over N5 million and was ready to spend more in order to ensure children at home kept learning until schools were reopened.

He also said the board would continue to support the delivery of the e-learning contents even when schools resumed normal classes.

He thanked UNICEF for its support which, he said, has greatly enhanced access to quality education in the state.

“We are calling on wealthy individuals across the state to use this opportunity to support their people with at least a radio set in order to increase coverage in terms of listening to the lessons being aired,” he added.

Meanwhile, UNICEF Sokoto Field office, under its Girls Education Project, has supported the state with N18,496,350 for production and airing of programme.
