Sokoto Assembly confirms Tambari Usman Grand Kadi
The Sokoto State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Kadi Muhammad Tambari Usman as Grand Kadi Sharia Court of Appeal.
It also confirmed Abdullahi Maccido, Abdulkadir Tambuwal and Abubakar Chika as permanent members of the state Judicial Service Commission.
The assembly, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji, made the confirmation at its Tuesday sitting.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal had submitted the name of Kadi Muhammad Tambari Usman as a nominee following the retirement of the former Grand Kadi.
He had also nominated the aforementioned three as permanent members of the state’s Judicial Service Commission following the expiration of the tenure of the former permanent members.
At the Tuesday plenary, the Majority Leader Alhaji Bello Ambarura moved a motion to screen the nominees.
He pointed out that the appointment was in compliance with the provision of Section 276 subsection (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Ambarura explained that it empowered the state governor to make the appointment of Grand Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Sokoto on the recommendation of the National Judicial Service Commission.
He added that Section 197 and other relevant sections in the constitution also empowered the governor to make the appointment of permanent members of the state Judicial Service Commission subject to the confirmation by the State Assembly.
