APC crisis: Eta kicks as Giadom fixes NEC meeting for tomorrow
National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold tomorrow to address the lingering crisis bedevilling the party, Chief Victor Giadom has said.
Giadom, who claimed that he was the acting national chairman of the party until he was replaced in the National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday by Mr. Worgu Boms, issued the notice of the NEC meeting yesterday.
He said the meeting to be held virtually had the consent of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The notice, titled ‘Notice of NEC Meeting’, read: “I, Chief Victor Giadom, having been duly authorised by court order to act as national chairman of our great party and to preside over all meetings of the NWC and NEC, hereby and with the consent of
President Muhammadu Buhari, reconvene the NEC meeting that was earlier billed to hold on the 17th of March, 2020, but was postponed. The reconvened meeting shall hold on Thursday, June 25th, 2020.”
But the APC National Vice Chairman, South South, Prince Hilliard Eta, who was appointed to act on behalf of the Deputy National Chairman, South, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, described the Giadom-summoned NEC meeting as unconstitutional.
Eta, who fielded questions from journalists after receiving the report of the Edo State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, said Giadom lacked the authority to convene the meeting.
Eta dismissed the assertion that the APC secretariat had become a battleground following a temporary closure of the party office yesterday by the police.
The police yesterday sealed the party secretariat before a statement was released that the action was taken to maintain law and order.
