Residents of Dorowan Babuje village of Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State have cried out over incessant attacks by hoodlums and armed robbers.

According to Abdullahi Garba, a youth leader in the area, hoodlums often invade the community intimidating people, especially during ceremonies and breaking into houses to steal.

Garba said the armed robbers also attack shops and collect money from shop owners, adding that the situation had been going on for a long time.

“We cannot sleep with our two eyes closed. People are always afraid of what may happen in the next minute. Whenever the community is attacked, people usually run for their lives because the attackers do invade with guns,” the youth leader said.

One of the victims of the attack and a shop owner, Abubakar Khamis said: “I was going about my businesses when gunmen attacked me in the shop. They collected all the money we made on that day. We are not safe in the community because even in broad day light, hoodlums attack and intimidate us.”

The youth leader called on the state government and other security agencies to as a matter of urgency come to their rescue as the situation was getting worse day by day.

Contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Ubah Gabriel, said the command had not received any report on the situation but promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer of the area on the matter.
