3 killed as troops destroy 12 bandits' camps in Katsina

Intercept Nigerien citizens with 6 rifles in Sokoto

In the effort to wipe out banditry in North-west region, troops of Operation Sahel Sanity have destroyed 12 notorious bandits' camps in Yobe Baranda community, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, during which three bandits were killed.

The Acting Director, Defence Media, and Operations, Brig. General Bernard Onyeuko stated this yesterday while briefing journalist­s at Special Army Super Camp IV in Faskari Local Government Area of the State.

Onyeuko said that many bandits fled with varying degree of injuries during the combined special clearance operation conducted by the Nigerian soldiers in the area.

"On 12 August 2020, in a combined special clearance operation, troops destroyed 12 bandit camps at Yobe Baranda in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State. Three bandits were neutralise­d in the process while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds,” he said.

The Acting Director (Defence Media Operations), Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko further disclosed that the troops (Operation Sahel Sanity) deployed at Forward Operation Base, Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State also smashed a notorious arms smuggling syndicate after a painstakin­g undercover operation.

He said the syndicate specialise­s in massive arms supply to bandits in the North West from across the internatio­nal borders.

The trio of Alhaji Adamu Alhassan, Salisu Adamu and Abdullahi Sani (all Nigerien citizens) were intercepte­d by the troops at Dantudu in Mailailai District of Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State.
