66 bag first class as Babcock varsity graduates 2,169

Babcock University, Ilishan in Ogun State, has graduated 2,169 students for the 2019/2020 academic session out of which 66 made first class.

Olayemi O. Olayinka of the Department of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) in the School of Education and Humanities emerged overall best student with 4.92 CGPA.

The President/Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Ademola Tayo, who spoke at the virtual convocation ceremony, described the event as historical, saying it marked a defining moment in the life of the institution in the midst of the global pandemic.

He noted that the institution had to tap into technology to see the academic session through. He praised the resilience of the graduands for taking their exams and standing up for integrity in spite of the current anxiety, global health crisis and economic meltdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. Tayo also disclosed that the institution funded more than 18 research works, adding that Dr. Ezekiel Chibundu and Dr. Emeka Okoro of Babcock

University were ranked among the top 100 Nigerian authors.

Speaking, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ecobank, Mr. Patrick Akinwuntan urged the graduands to be ready to adapt and compete with others or be ready to start their own businesses as they go into the next phase of life.

He emphasised that the basic value of punctuality, respect, humility and diligence have become rare in the business community and that those who seek to do business must learn to have and keep them.
