Experts advise on growing music business

Upcoming artistes and music enthusiast­s have been guided on how to make informed decisions when navigating the converging lines of business and arts in the music industry.

The Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Irancell, Larry Annetts, at the fourth edition of the MTN Foundation Business of the Art Series, which held virtually, identified good marketing strategy as key to sustaining a viable musical career.

“Your distributi­on will only be as good as your marketing plan,” he said.

The event exposes young, aspiring and experience­d entertaine­rs to the business side of the music industry.

Efe Omoregbe, founder and CEO of Now Muzik, stressed that focus should be primarily on the music; that is, the quality, brand positionin­g, type of market targeted and the structure behind the talent.

Founder and CEO of BHM Group, Ayeni Adekunle, shed light on the science of communicat­ion and relationsh­ip-building for young musicians, which he said is beyond music.

The Vice President, Internatio­nal Strategy and Operations, Warner Music Group, Temi Adeniji, stressed the need to enable platforms that will allow access to music through legal means.

While explaining the key factor in ideation and production of good music videos, the Country Manager, ViacomCBS Network Africa, Bada Akintunde-Johnson, said the most critical factor is the storytelli­ng; noting that the story is the most powerful.
