Gombe NOA takes campaign on COVID-19 to motor parks, markets

- From Haruna Gimba Yaya, Gombe

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Gombe State said it has taken the sensitisation campaign on observing the COVID-19 protocols to motor parks and markets across the 11 local government areas of the state.

The State Director of NOA, Mrs Sarah Yapwa stated this during the launch of the campaign titled; ‘Building people of peace: working together to overcome COVID-19, focusing on health and security infrastructure.’

She said the agency has been visiting motor parks to sensitise them on the imperatives of adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines to ensure that people are observing the safety protocols to contain the spread of the virus in the state.

She explained that some of the challenges they faced at the beginning were that some people did not believe that the COVID-19 is real.

“But through these sensitisation campaigns, we were able to make them understand that the disease is real and it kills and they have started to adhere to the safety protocols.”

Mrs Yapwa added that the operators of motor parks and traders at the various markets in the state are critical stakeholders, whom without their support, the pandemic cannot be defeated.

The NOA director, therefore, urged the motorists, traders and other members of the public to always use face masks, and frequently wash their hands with soap and water or hand sanitizers.

She also said that after campaigns at the motor parks and markets, the agency would soon launch a similar sensitisation campaign in schools, to ensure that pupils and students as well as their teachers are safe when schools resume.
