Ex-Plateau lawmaker donates 14-bed clinic to constituents
Aformer member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, has constructed and furnished a 14-bed clinic for the residents of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The clinic, which is located at the centre of Jos city, is to service the health need of less privileged persons in the area and complement state and federal government’s fights against the current COVID-19 pandemic and other related health challenges.
The clinic named “Yahaya Kwande Community Clinic” has both female and male wards, a children and delivery units, and a consulting room for doctors and nurses.
Suleiman commenced the construction of the clinic as part of his constituency projects during the 8th Assembly, but couldn’t finish it before he left the House of Representatives in 2019, but decided to complete and furnish it.
The former lawmaker, who lost in the APC primary in 2019 to return to the House of Representatives for the third time, insisted on completing the project in fulfillment of his campaign promises and to address the health need of the people.
“I am grateful to God for giving me the enablement to complete this clinic that can admit 14 persons at a time. Although I am no longer in office, I promised myself that I will not leave any project uncomplicated. I wish I could have done more in equipping the clinic but it was hard enough to build and finish it.
“I urge all illustrious sons and stakeholders in the community to come to the aid of the clinic to improve on the health challenges of our people, particularly the less privileged. My earnest desire is for our people to have good health and contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of Plateau and Nigeria.”
The Director of Administration and Murshid of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Plateau State, Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Yusuf, commended Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande for completing and equipping the hospital despite being out of office.
He said this showed that the ex-lawmaker has the interest of his people at heart.
“We are highly optimistic that this hospital will certainly address the health challenges of people in Jos and complement the government’s effort in providing health services to people at the community level, particularly with the current pandemic.
The State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Plateau State, Hon. Bashir Musa Sati, commended Hon. Yahaya-Kwande for the thoughtful initiative, which he said would address the plight of the people in the community.
“We are grateful that even out of office, a law maker can still build a clinic for his people. This is indeed a challenge to occupying leadership positions at the moment.”
