Etegwe community urges Bayelsa govt on access road
Etegwe community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has appealed to the state government to come to its aid by constructing the internal roads it earmarked in the community since the creation of the state.
The paramount ruler of Etegwe community, Chief Gard Ile, told Niger Delta Trust that though it is one of the host communities to Yenagoa, the state capital, Etegwe was still lagging behind in terms of development, especially availability of motorable roads.
He said the community had, upon the creation of Bayelsa State, earmarked several road networks for rehabilitation but regrettably, the roads have not been constructed, 23 years after the creation of the state.
He said the only road in Etegwe that was in good condition was the one constructed by the Chief Timipre Sylva’s administration.
The traditional ruler lamented that residents of the community passed through a lot of hardships, especially accessing their houses during the rainy season, occasioned by flood.
He, however, lauded the State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) programme for coming to their aid by constructing some internal roads both at Etegwe II, the NIT axes and Etegwe III.
“I want to thank SEEFOR because in Etegwe they have constructed some major roads, which brought some relief to the community. SEEFOR has done some major roads in Etegwe II and III axes of the community.
“Take for instance, the only road in the old Etegwe settlement is the one done by Timipre Sylva, that is the Primary School road. But the way things are, it looks like government has abandoned the community, nobody thinks of the community,” the paramount ruler said.
