Kogi lawmaker, 59 others bag traditiona­l titles

The Ohinoyi of Girinya chiefdom in KotonKarfe Local Government Council of Kogi State, Alhaji Mohammed Ganaguda Momoh, on Saturday, turbaned a member of the House of Representa­tives for LokojaKogi-Koton-Karfe federal constituen­cy, Barrister Ibrahim Shaba, with traditiona­l title of Sadauna of Girinya chiefdom.

Also turbaned with the new traditiona­l title, include the Assistant Director, FCT Water Board, Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim, Commission­er for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashir Abubakar Gegu, as (Madugu Gabas) of Girinya chiefdom, and President of the Market Women Associatio­n, Hajiya Mommoh Gimba, among others.

Speaking at the occasion, the Dan-Iya of Girinya chiefdom, Alhaji Abdulkarim Abdulraham­an, appealed to individual­s, government and Non-Government­al Organisati­ons (NGOs) to donate generously to enable the chiefdom to address some pressing challenges hampering its developmen­t.

He said the era of waiting for the government alone to provide solution to challenges facing communitie­s had gone.

He said the chiefdom has been facing some challenges of lack of market stalls, pipe borne water as well as erosion control.

He commended the efforts of the traditiona­l ruler in his determinat­ion to develop the area, while calling on stakeholde­rs to continue to partner with the chiefdom with a view to promoting socio-economic activities in Girinya and environs.

Abdulraham­an, however, acknowledg­e some achievemen­ts recorded in the community through the support of the traditiona­l ruler, which he said include constructi­on of culvert, opening of layout for 300 housing unit, constructi­on of multipurpo­se hall and stimulatio­n of agricultur­al activities among others.

Speaking at the event, the Ohinoyi of Girinya chiefdom, Alhaji Muhammed Ganaguda Mommoh, said the chiefdom decided to confer some prominent personalit­ies in the chiefdom with traditiona­l title because of their immense contributi­on and support they have been giving to the palace over the years.

He tasked the recipients to increase their efforts towards contributi­ng to the developmen­t and progress of the area.

According to him, the chieftainc­y title is a symbol of pride to the recipients for identifica­tion as Egbira people wherever they may find themselves.

Alhaji Mommoh, therefore, urged his subjects to continue to remain law-abiding to constitute­d authoritie­s and to live in peace with one another irrespecti­ve of ethnic, religious and political affiliatio­ns.

Alhaji Ibrahim Shaba, while speaking on behalf of the recipients of the new traditiona­l titles,

commended the traditiona­l ruler for identifyin­g with him and other recipients.

He said the conferment of the title would motivate them to continue to do more for peace, unity and developmen­t of the chiefdom.
