‘Medicall mobile app to fight maternal mortality’
Medicall Nigeria says its telemedicine application, ‘Medicall’, will help Nigeria combat maternal mortality by increasing women’s access to the best medical care through their mobile phones.
Engineer Peter Smith, CEO/Founder Medicall Nigeria,along with his management team, said this in Abuja on Monday during a courtesy visit to the management of Media Trust Limited, publishers of the Daily Trust newspapers.
“From my research, I found out that the rate of maternal mortality is very high. So, I feel I have to do something about it…and we developed a telemedicine called Medicall. It is an application that allows you to reach out to a doctor from a distress point.
“This is something useful to Nigerians, but most importantly, something that’s going to serve our women and our children,” he said.
The app, which is available from Google and IOS app stores, allows users to reach out to medical professionals where they will be directed on what to do immediately.
Smith said the system would also accommodate those in the rural areas without access to smart phones by using dedicated hotlines where they could call and would be attended to in their local dialects.

Nigeria would collaborate with the Nigerian Medical Association, the Association of Resident Doctors, the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and all other medical associations to get the best doctors that would provide services to those using the medicall mobile application platform.
Responding, the Editor-in-Chief of Media Trust Ltd, Mallam Naziru Mikailu, said the project would benefit a lot of Nigerians if properly managed.
He urged the team to take advantage of the various platforms in the Daily Trust titles to promote access to good medical care among the most vulnerable groups, especially women and children.
