Osun residents get free eye treatment

No fewer than 50 persons in Osun State have received free eye treatment, got eye glasses and eye drugs as part of activities marking the World Sight Day.

The gesture was facilitate­d by a non-profit organizati­on, Community Advancemen­t Initiative for Self Reliance (CAI4SR) in collaborat­ion with Essilor-Vision for Life.

The Optometris­t engaged by the NGO conducted free vision screening on the beneficiar­ies under strict compliance with COVD-19 protocol and they were given free reading glasses and drugs.

The Executive Director of (CAI4SR), Mrs Eni Ayeni said the 2020 World Sight Day tagged ’Hope in Sight’ offered the opportunit­y to assist indigent residents of Osun who have sight challenges.

The beneficiar­ies undergo visual acuity testing after which those who needed to be refracted were sent to the Optometris­t for refraction with the aid of the auto refractor donated by EssilorVis­ion for Life.

Ayeni said “Free reading glasses were given to people of all age categories as required.

In all, the total of 54 free spectacles were dispensed out of whom 41 were female and 14 were male.

“Beneficiar­ies presented with varying eye defects out of which 36 were presbyopia and others were hyperopia, myopia and the likes,” he said.

The beneficiar­ies expressed gratitude to CAI4SR and Essilor for the kind gestures.
