The Federal Capital Territory sports Department is set to fulfil a two-yearold promise made to her athletes who won medals at the 2018 National Sports Festival.

A statement from the Head of media and Communication, FCT Sports Department Agbor Clinton, said the event will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at the FCT sports complex.

It will be recalled that in 2018, the former Director of Sports Department, Mrs Dilichukwu Onyendinma had assured the athletes that the award money would be given to them soon.

In 2020, the athletes and coaches again clamoured for their money, but Dilichikwu stated that the money would have been disbursed to them if not for Covid 19 pandemic.

She added that the FCT Administration is working round the clock to make sure that the money is paid as soon as possible.

“I read in the news that the coaches and athletes came out and talked about when their award money will be released. I want to assure them that the money will be paid soon. FCT Administration is doing everything in making sure that they are paid soon.

“I appeal to them to exercise patience and wait for the good news,” she said then.

It will also be recalled that the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello had promised to give medallists some rewards in appreciation for their commitment.

Bello promised to give gold medallists Three hundred thousand (N300,000) naira, each, while Silver and Bronze medallists would smile home with Two hundred thousand (N200,000) and One hundred thousand (N200,000) respectively.

Team FCT finished 7th best overall at the last edition of the national sports festival.
