Zazzau: Contest over, be fair to all, El-Rufai tells Emir
Governor Nasir el-Rufai has called on the new Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, to be fair and just to all the people of the emirate.
The governor also told the emir that the competition for the throne is over, hence the need for him to unite the people including all those that didn't support him.
Governor el-Rufai gave the advice when he received the emir's delegation at the government house on a thank you visit on Wednesday.
He assured the emirate of his administration’s support, adding that working in unity will help the emirate achieve great strides and development.
"My appeal is for you to continue to bring everyone together, everyone close; tap from everyone's experience that the council members have accumulated in the administration of Zazzau emirate.
"So, that working together will make Zazzau emirate achieve great stride and development, peaceful coexistence and unity. I call on the emir to be fair and just to everyone; those that supported him and those that didn't because the competition is over.
“The hard work now begins of uniting everyone, achieving progress and preserving the nobility of this revered institution that we are all very proud of," he said.
Earlier, Emir Bamalli told the governor that they were at the government house for a thank you visit for choosing him as late Emir Dr Shehu Idris’ successor.
He said the task is not an easy one due to the competition he faced during the selection process but assured the governor of the emirate's continued loyalty.
He also told the governor that all the dynasties are represented in his delegation which, he said, meant there is peace and unity in the emirate.
He also said they were gradually reaching out to every contender to the throne so that they can all come together and serve the people of Zaria and the state.
"So I believe we are one family and I don't have any reason whatsoever to sideline any of the dynasties. We are all brothers and we have been together for a long time. I served as Magajin Gari for 19 years so I have the experience to carry everybody along," he said.
Daily Trust reports that one of the top contenders for the stool of Zazzau Emirate, Alhaji Bashar Aminu, the Iyan Zazzau, has asked a Kaduna State High Court to set aside the appointment of Emir Bamalli and declare him (Aminu) as the rightful emir.
