Ex-Ji­gawa speaker, Dun­dubus, dies

A for­mer speaker of Ji­gawa State House of Assem­bly, Iliyasu Sa’idu Dun­dubus, has died.

He died, yes­ter­day, pro­tracted ill­ness.

The state Assem­bly’s spokesman, Ba­bangida Hade­jia, who con­firmed the death of the for­mer law­maker, said he died on Wed­nes­day while re­ceiv­ing treat­ment at the Ah­madu Bello Uni­ver­sity Teach­ing Hos­pi­tal, Shika, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Dun­dubus served 2000-2003 as the speaker dur­ing the first ten­ure of Se­na­tor Ibrahim Saminu Tu­raki as the gover­nor of the state.

Hade­jia noted that the re­mains of the de­ceased were be­ing ex­pected in the

fol­low­ing a state for burial as at the time of writ­ing this report.

The de­ceased, who hailed from Dun­dubus com­mu­nity in Dutse Lo­cal Govern­ment Area, would be re­mem­bered for is­su­ing a 24-hour ul­ti­ma­tum to for­mer Gover­nor Tu­raki to re­turn to the state or risk im­peach­ment fol­low­ing the lat­ter’s pro­longed ab­sence from the state.

The gover­nor had to re­turn to the state be­fore the 24 hours ul­ti­ma­tum.

The death of Dun­dubus is com­ing barely six months af­ter the death of an­other for­mer speaker of the State Assem­bly, Hon. Adamu Sarawa, who died in April 2020 af­ter a brief ill­ness in Kano.

Sarawa suc­ceeded Dun­dubus as the speaker of the assem­bly in 2003.
