Truck kills motorcycle passenger in Anambra
An unidentified motorcycle passenger has died in an accident involving a truck and a motorcycle on the Oba- Nnewi road in Nnewi, Anambra State, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Mr Andrew Kumapayi, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, who confirmed the incident to the NAN in Awka on Wednesday, said the accident occurred at about 1.p.m.
Kumapayi said that the accident was caused by brake failure and loss of control.
The FRSC sector commander said that a total of four male adults were involved in the accident while one of them died in the crash.
“The crash involved a Mark truck with registration number KSF441XF and a motorcycle without a registration number
“According to eyewitnesses, the brake of the truck failed, the driver lost control of the truck and rammed into the motorcycle.
“The male passenger of the motorcycle died on the spot while the motorcyclist sustained some degree of injuries.
“The victim was rushed to the Teaching Hospital Nnewi by FRSC rescue team from Oraifite Unit Command while the body of the dead was deposited at the morgue, “he said.
While condoling with the family of the dead, Kumapayi urged motorists to prioritise regular maintenance of their vehicles to meet the minimum safety standards before driving them on the highways to avoid road traffic crashes. (NAN)
