Truck kills mo­tor­cy­cle pas­sen­ger in Anam­bra

An uniden­ti­fied mo­tor­cy­cle pas­sen­ger has died in an ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing a truck and a mo­tor­cy­cle on the Oba- Nnewi road in Nnewi, Anam­bra State, the News Agency of Nige­ria (NAN) re­ports.

Mr An­drew Kuma­payi, the Sec­tor Com­man­der, Fed­eral Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anam­bra, who con­firmed the in­ci­dent to the NAN in Awka on Wed­nes­day, said the ac­ci­dent oc­curred at about 1.p.m.

Kuma­payi said that the ac­ci­dent was caused by brake fail­ure and loss of con­trol.

The FRSC sec­tor com­man­der said that a to­tal of four male adults were in­volved in the ac­ci­dent while one of them died in the crash.

“The crash in­volved a Mark truck with regis­tra­tion num­ber KSF441XF and a mo­tor­cy­cle without a regis­tra­tion num­ber

“Ac­cord­ing to eye­wit­nesses, the brake of the truck failed, the driver lost con­trol of the truck and rammed into the mo­tor­cy­cle.

“The male pas­sen­ger of the mo­tor­cy­cle died on the spot while the mo­tor­cy­clist sus­tained some de­gree of in­juries.

“The vic­tim was rushed to the Teach­ing Hos­pi­tal Nnewi by FRSC res­cue team from Oraifite Unit Com­mand while the body of the dead was de­posited at the morgue, “he said.

While con­dol­ing with the fam­ily of the dead, Kuma­payi urged mo­torists to pri­ori­tise reg­u­lar main­te­nance of their ve­hi­cles to meet the min­i­mum safety stan­dards be­fore driv­ing them on the high­ways to avoid road traf­fic crashes. (NAN)
