Ogun As­sem­bly confirms ‘in­dicted’ VC as com­mis­sioner

The Ogun State House of As­sem­bly has con­firmed the nom­i­na­tion of the Vice Chan­cel­lor of the state-owned Tai So­larin Uni­ver­sity of Ed­u­ca­tion (TASUED), Ija­gun, Prof Abay­omi Arig­babu, as the Com­mis­sioner of Ed­u­ca­tion, Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy.

The as­sem­bly presided over by the Speaker, Olakunle Olu­omo, con­firmed his nom­i­na­tion de­spite find­ing him in­dicted by the State Au­dit Re­port sub­mit­ted to the Pub­lic Ac­counts Com­mit­tee (PAC) of the House.

The house, how­ever, said it con­firmed his nom­i­na­tion, re­ly­ing “on the le­gal pre­sump­tion of in­no­cence, which states that an in­di­vid­ual is con­sid­ered in­no­cent un­til proven guilty be­yond rea­son­able doubt.”

The as­sem­bly also con­firmed the nom­i­na­tion of the for­mer pres­i­dent of the Nige­rian Union of Jour­nal­ists (NUJ), Wa­heed Odusile, as the com­mis­sioner for In­for­ma­tion and Strat­egy.

The con­fir­ma­tion fol­lowed the com­mis­sion­ers-des­ig­nate screening by the law­mak­ers on Monday.

The Ma­jor­ity Leader, Yusuf Sher­iff, who on Thurs­day pre­sented the re­port of the screening at the ple­nary, moved a mo­tion for its adop­tion which was sec­onded by Hon. Sylvester Abio­dun.

The house con­sid­ered the re­port of the com­mit­tee and fur­ther con­firmed the nom­i­na­tion of the duo as re­quested by Gov­er­nor Dapo Abio­dun.
