Jos North LG boss warns NURTW officials against trespass

- From Ado Abubakar Musa, Jos

The Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, yesterday warned officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ) in Laranto Motor Park against trespassing into public property.

The warning followed a claim by officials of the union to have purchased the Laranto Motor park some years back from the past administration of the council.

However, the current administration disagreed, saying the said motor park “is a commonwealth of the larger citizens of Jos North Local Government Area to their exclusive use and advantage.”

Benue/Plateau Trust reported on July 6 this year that many people were injured at Laranto Motor park when the local government workers clashed with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) over ownership of the park.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mr Philip Eplon, Information Officer of the council, said some selfish individuals have engaged in false ad malicious propaganda against the council.

“These few individuals initially paraded themselves as “officials” of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ), and when their mission failed, they metamorphosed to “officials/representatives” of traders of Laranto Motor Park, Jos, “it added.

The council reiterated that it had never sold the motor park or any of the council’s properties to anyone, adding that it would not be intimidated by the blackmail of any individual or group.

The Secretary, NURTW in Laranto, Alh. Sule Yaro did not answer calls put across to his line and an SMS sent to him was not acknowledged.
