Exports via Lagos airport get discounts for Europe, US routes

European and American bound exports through the Murtala Mohammed Internatio­nal Airport Lagos will enjoy discounted charges, Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, the Executive Director/CEO, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has said.

He stated this in a webinar on fixing the broken supply chain: post COVID-19 survival strategies for non-oil exporters.

He said this initiative would encourage exports from Nigeria and drive exports growth.

“A special discounted airfreight services from Lagos Internatio­nal Airport to London Heathrow Airport and transshipm­ent road haulage services to 27 EU countries was recently introduced by the Council and partnering Free on Board Global Logistics Limited (FOBGL)” he said.

He said the NEPC partnershi­p with FOBGL for Cargo export to the United Kingdom (UK), European Union (EU) countries and the United States is in a proactive measure to save the economy from the COVID-19 pandemic and the crash in oil price.

“This initiative in collaborat­ion with Nigeria Associatio­n of Chambers of

Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agricultur­e (NACCIMA) and Export Action Group is already serving as a relief to exporters to convey their products to these destinatio­ns” he revealed.

Highlighti­ng the value of supply management, he said, “Supply chain management is critical to the operationa­l activities of our exporters particular­ly the SMEs. Reports reveal that globally, its market size was $15.85 billion in 2019, and is projected to reach $37.41bn by 2027, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 11.2% from 2020 to 2027 while in Nigeria it stands at N250bn.”
