Dahiru Sadi backs Ancelotti on right full back role for Iwobi

- By David Ngobua

As reactions continue to trail the role assigned Super Eagles attacking midfielder, Alex Iwobi in Everton, a former Nigerian international, Dahiru Sadi has said there is nothing wrong with the technical decision by veteran coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Against Fulham last weekend, the youngster known for midfield roles was deployed to the right full back position where he was adjudged by many to have done excellently.

However, some Nigerian football fans who are used to watching the former Arsenal man pull the strings in the midfield for both club and country have raised the alarm that the new role might destroy his creativity.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former Ranchers Bees and Abiola Babes creative midfielder said the technical crew of the Super Eagles and Nigerian football fans should be happy that they have found another utility player.

He said it is only those who are not conversant with the changing trends in football that will question the decision of Ancelotti saying the legendary coach must have identified a special talent in the player.

He said “For me it is neither embarrassing nor degrading. It is a welcome development. Now the coach knows that he has a utility player who can play as a creative midfielder and also right full back.

“It is also an added advantage to the Super Eagles. A good player can adjust and play in any position. So I am happy with what happened.

“He has been playing as an attacking midfielder but when a coach sees something special in you, he makes maximum use of it. There are some players who cannot play in any position other than the one they are used to playing.

“I am happy for Iwobi because he has proved that he is not a single position player.”
