...Nigeria on auto pilot—PDP

- By Saawua Terzungwe

The People’s Democratic Party yesterday described as wicked and devilish, the beheading of farmers by insurgents on Saturday in Zabarmari, Borno State.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, said Nigeria appeared to be on auto pilot with no one in charge while the ship of state continued to drift.

The PDP expressed shock at the development and asked President Muhammadu Buhari to step up efforts at improving the security situation in the country.

The party said it was distressed by the escalated killing and maiming of innocent Nigerians by insurgents, bandits and marauders, who have continued to ravage and pillage communities in the country.

“The PDP is particularly disturbed because of the failure of the Buhari Presidency to take decisive action despite series of concerns raised by Borno state governor, Baba Gana Zulum, of security compromises in the state.

“The Buhari administration appears helpless while our national security structure under President Buhari seems to have collapsed.

“Mr. President should immediately move to Zabarmari in Borno State, empathize with the families of the victims and lead from the front in restoring security in the area,” the PDP said.

When contacted, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekina Nabena, asked our correspondent to forward the PDP’s statement to him before he could react. Though obliged, he did not react as of the time of filing this report.
