NEDC donates books to schools in Mubi emirate
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) through the Jakadiya Trust Foundation has equipped no fewer than 35 secondary schools in Mubi emirate with assorted books in its drive to ensure the revival of education in the area.
This was disclosed during a youth sensitisation workshop on drugs and education.
The NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, commended the founder of the Jakadiya Trust Foundation who doubles as the Jakadiya Mubi, Professor Ladi Hamalai, for organising what he called a futuristic project to salvage the lot of the youth.
Alkali, who was represented by Fatima Ciroma, noted that the youths in Mubi emirate like all the youths across the North East region had been affected by the insurgency in which schools, businesses and sources of livelihoods were destroyed and schooling disrupted.
In her remarks, Professor Hamalai, who said the programme was a response to demands for a better society, lauded NEDC and UBEC for the support given to her foundation which whe added would go a long way in addressing some of the critical challenges faced by the society.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State praised Hamalai for the gesture, adding that the move was in line with his government’s drive to restore the education sector which was bastardised by past administrations.
The governor who was represented by Madawakin Mubi, Alhaji Mahmud Madawaki, noted that his administration had paid WAEC and NECO fees in addition to introducing free and compulsory basic education.
