Police neutralise suspected bandit, recover AK47 rifles in Katsina

The police in Katsina State have confirmed the death of a suspected bandit and the recovery of two AK47 rifles following a shootout between security agents and suspected criminals.

Addressing journalist­s on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Gambo Isah, said the first incident occurred at Danmusa town when the gunmen carried out an attack.

“Today being 17/02/2020 at about 02:00hrs, DPO Danmusa Division and team responded to a distress call, that bandits, seven in number, shooting sporadical­ly with AK 47 rifles, attacked the house of one Alhaji Sani Bello, of Danmusa Town, Danmusa LGA of Katsina State.

“The team engaged the bandits in a gun duel, neutralize­d one bandit and recovered one AK 47 rifle with 17 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

“It is believed that others might have escaped with gunshot wounds. Search parties are still combing the area to arrest the injured bandits and/or recovering their dead bodies. Investigat­ion is ongoing,” he said.

The second incident, Isah said, took place also

Wednesday at about 2:45 pm, when the DPO Kankara Division and team, while on routine patrol along ZangoPauwa villages engaged suspected bandits into a gun duel and recovered one AK 47 rifle, two magazines and five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

He added that search parties were combing the area to recover more arms and ammunition or injured/ dead bodies of the bandits.
