Abduljabbar pleads with lawyers to withdraw cases against Ganduje
The embattled Islamic scholar in Kano State, Sheik Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, has pleaded with all the lawyers who filed cases on his behalf against the state government and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to withdraw same.
Sheik Abduljabbar, in a short video made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday, said the reason for this was informed by his belief that it would be better to allow the government conclude the investigation it had already embarked upon on the issues.
Abduljabbar had approached a high court in the state last Wednesday seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the state government and the police from continually closing his mosque and banning him from preaching.
The state government had barred the cleric from preaching in the state, alleging that his mode of preaching was incendiary.
The government also ordered that all the seminaries run by the cleric be shut down pending the outcome of an investigation by security agencies.
The cleric, however, pleaded with the government to be just and fair in its investigations.
He said, “I’m ready to accept all the outcomes of the investigations if justice and fairness are done on the matter.
“There is no need for court if this is done. We should wait for the government first.
“This is why I’m pleading with the lawyers to withdraw the court cases because I’m optimistic about getting a just and fair outcome in the investigation.”
Daily Trust reports that a team of lawyers have filed two separate cases against the state government at federal and state high courts seeking the enforcement of the sheikh’s fundamental human rights, as well as setting aside a court order banning the sheikh from preaching.
