Yobe govt approves N3.2bn for airport, road, market projects

The Yobe State Executive Council yesterday approved over N3.2 billion for additional works at the Damaturu Internatio­nal Cargo Airport and the Gashua Modern Market as well as constructi­on of roads and drainages in the state.

The Commission­er for Home Affairs, Informatio­n and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, disclosed this in Damaturu while briefing journalist­s on the outcome of the council meeting which was presided over by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana.

He said the council also approved the sum of N1, 547. 908, 888.00 for the procuremen­t and installati­on of aircraft rescue, firefighti­ng trucks, training of personnel and the installati­on of Low Level Wind-Shear Alert System (LLWAS) at the Damaturu Internatio­nal Cargo Airport.

The commission­er said: “In addition to this approval, the council also ratified the sum of N744, 194,523.03 for the execution of additional works on the Gashua Modern Market project, a project that is still ongoing and about to be completed.”

According to the commission­er, the council also approved the sum of N 149, 000, 000.00 for the procuremen­t of four Toyota Camry and two Toyota Corolla vehicles which would be allocated to the newly appointed High Court judges and Khadis in the state.

“Also ratified by the council was approval of the sum of N273, 447, 800.00 for the constructi­on of 4.2 km access road Phase I from Works Quarters to the new housing estate along Ibrahim Gaidam Crescent, Damaturu.”

“Another sum of N524, 666, 549.5 was ratified for the constructi­on of 3.6km earth road linking New Bra-Bra estate to Nyaya estate and NEP layout as well as the constructi­on of 4.6km concrete drain linking new Bra-Bra estate to Nyaya and NEP layout Phase II all within Damaturu metropolis,” he stated.
