The Arewa People’s Forum (APF) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to speed up the completion of Baro Port in Niger State and the Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill.

The Baro Inland Port located in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State is yet to commence operations since President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned it in 2019.

The project which was awarded to a Chinese firm, CGCC project limited is equipment with a quart length of 150 meters, a 3,600 square meter transit shed, a water hydrant system, a water treatment plant all powered by a 100 KVA generating set which is expected to provide between 2,000 to 2,500 direct and indirect jobs.

However, the National Chairman of APF, Adamu ldrisu Chado at a press briefing in Kaduna State yesterday said, “It is our submission to appeal to the government to speed up the completion of the Baro Port in Niger State and the completion of Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill”.

The chairman said that the speedy completion of Baro Port and Ajaokuta Steel will help to address the issues of insecurity and unemployment in the country.

“It will help in the creation of jobs, provide an avenue for diversification of resettlement of professionals and other expertise to the generality of the Baro and Kogi communities, and other neighbouring states”.
