‘Reinstate management courses in specialised varsities’

Students of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) have called for the reinstatement of management science courses into the academic programmes of the school.

The Students Union president of the institution, Michael Oloyede, who made the call while addressing journalists said it had become a matter of urgent public importance for the courses to be restored.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, had directed that effective 2018 academic year, all management courses of specialised institutions must be discontinued.

But Oloyede lamented that delisting management courses from specialised universities has deprived millions of eligible students seeking administration into universities from gaining admission.

He added that removing management courses from specialised universities had also put much pressure on other universities offering courses in management sciences and further shut university admission against several others.

Oloyede urged President Muhammadu Buhari to yield to the call of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and other eminent Nigerians to restore management courses in specialised universities.

Oba Gbadebo had in 2019 written a letter to Buhari, appealing that specialised universities be allowed to run management courses.

“The delisting of management courses from the University of Agriculture Abeokuta has restricted Ogun State students from having equal access to higher education in the country and this decision has sent a wrong signal to the people of the state,” he said.
