The police in Ogun State have arrested two ex-convicts, Abiodun Oshoba and Mustapha Sakiru, for hijacking a motorcycle.

The duo allegedly robbed one Aminu Iliyasu of his Bajaj motorcycle at gun point.

The state’s police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged at the Sagamu Police Station by the robbery victim.

Oyeyemi said, “The victim reported that the two suspects boarded his motorcycle as passengers and asked him to take them to Conference Hotel at GRA in Sagamu.

“On their way, the suspects brought out a gun and ordered him to stop. They dispossessed him of the motorcycle and made away with it.

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO of Sagamu, Okiki Agunbiade, mobilised his men and in-conjunction with members of the vigilante group blocked all the exit points of the GRA and commenced stop and search.

“Their efforts yielded positive result when the police at one of the exit points sighted one of the suspects, Abiodun Oshoba, riding the motorcycle with the number plate folded.

“On sighting the policemen, he abandoned the motorcycle and took to his heels. He was chased and apprehended by the policemen and his arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice, Mustapha Sakiru.”

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the duo met in Igbeba prison where they served different jail terms and formed a gang after their release from the prison.

He said Mustapha was jailed in 2016 for hijacking a truck while Oshoba was jailed in 2019 for snatching a phone, but both of them were released from prison in 2020.
