Bandits kill 10 in Kaduna, Sokoto

Bandits have attacked three communitie­s in Igabi and Kajuru local government areas of Kaduna State and killed seven people. The Kaduna State Government, while confirming the attacks, said the bandits attacked Kajinjir and Rago villages in Igabi where four people were killed and one person injured and that another attack claimed three lives in Katuru, Kajuru LGA In a statement, the state’s Commission­er for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said two among those killed had been identified as Ibrahim Rabi’u and Abdulrahma­n Mohammad, while Kamal Murtala who sustained gunshot injuries was receiving treatment at a nearby facility.

Aruwan said the attack on Rago village claimed Alhaji Ibrahim Iro and Muhammadu Rabiu, and that those killed in Katura had been identified as Michael Shadari, Clement Aura Bili and Danlami Shaban.

In a related developmen­t, bandits on Saturday night attacked Gatawa Town in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State and killed three persons, including a seven-year-old refugee.

The town has been playing host to refugees displaced by bandits.

A resident of the community, Sanusi Gatawa, told Daily Trust that the attackers stormed the town around 10.pm and operated till 12.am when soldiers from Sabon Birni arrived. He said, “The soldiers exchanged fire with them but we cannot say whether they (bandits) too suffered casualties because they don’t leave their corpses.”

In an interview with Daily Trust, the Commission­er for Carrier and Security Matters in the state, Colonel Garba Moyi (Rtd), said the attacks were carried out by splinter groups of gangs that had already embraced peace with the government.
