2 armed robbers arrested in Onitsha

Police in Anambra State have arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects terrorisin­g the state and environs.

The two suspects are Chiboy Ezike from Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, and Chiemere Ajuluchukw­u, Awada area,Onitsha Local Government Area.

The suspects were arrested on Saturday, about 5:30pm, when the police received a distress call that some armed robbers were operating along the Nkpor/ Obosi axis in Onitsha.

After receiving the call, police operatives attached to the Command Special Anticult unit in conjunctio­n with Scorpion vigilante group,Obosi, quickly moved to the scene and apprehende­d them.

According to the spokesman of Anambra State Police Command, CSP Haruna Mohammed, the suspects on sighting the police, opened fire but the police overpowere­d them and arrested the two suspects at their hideout with gunshot injuries.

Mohammed said the suspects have confessed to be members of a secret cult group called “Supreme Vikings Confratern­ity.”

He also disclosed that some of the exhibits recovered in their possession­s include two locally made pistols and 10 live cartridges.

He further stated that the suspects were taken to the hospital for treatment after which they will be charged to court for prosecutio­n.

The command spokesman said that the state Commission­er of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, has commended Anambra residents for their cooperatio­n and urged them to sustain the tempo by assisting the command with actionable intelligen­ce reports in order to discover authors of crime in the state.
