Lagos opens free Creative Academy for youths

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched EbonyLife Creative Academy - a world-class film and television production institute, established by EbonyLife Media in conjunction with the Lagos State Creative Industry Initiative (LACI), a parastatal under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

The Academy, located on Victoria Island, kicked off with the training for 120 creative young people who were admitted for free, to access practical courses designed by industry experts across all aspects of filmmaking and media content production.

Features of the Academy include state-of-the-art lecture rooms, projection and sound facilities, practical studio, workshop spaces and post-production facilities fitted with the latest technology among others.

Sanwo-Olu, while inaugurating the institute, explained that the project was initiated not only to create jobs and economic opportunities for creative young people, but also to bolster positive impact on the production of quality creative contents, thereby stimulating the creative economy.

EbonyLife Media Chief Executive Officer, Ms Mo Abudu, said the Academy has all it takes to grow the creative economy in the state, by deploying cuttingedge knowledge in training creative youths.

The academy will offer courses like screenwriting, film and television production, directing, audio and sound production, acting for screen, cinematography and lighting, among others.
