Buni lauds FG’s social investment, other poverty reduction programmes in Yobe
Yobe Governor and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s Social Investment as well as poverty reduction initiatives in the country, particularly in Yobe State.
Buni, represented by his deputy Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, gave the commendation during the flagg-off of the federal government’s special cash grant for rural women by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in Damaturu.
The governor said Buhari had since inception been formulating policies geared towards reducing the rate of poverty and unemployment, especially among the women, youths and other vulnerable persons.
“Let me from the onset commend the efforts of His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on his various motivational commitments towards
State emancipating the women, youth and vulnerable groups from the clutches of poverty.
“As we are all aware, at the inception of the present democratic rule in 1999, Yobe was among the states with high rates of poverty and the condition of our people was further aggravated by the activities of insurgents and humanitarian crises they generated over a decade ago.,” Buni said.
He also commended the minister for supporting Yobe, especially assistance to flood victims and COVID-19 palliatives among others.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, while flagging off the programme, said a sum of N20, 000 would be distributed to 3, 400 women under the federal government special cash grant for rural women in Yobe State.
Farouq said the programme, introduced by the ministry in 2020, was part of President Mohammadu Buhari’s social inclusion and poverty reduction agenda where 150, 000 poor rural women across the 36 states of the federal and the Federal Capital Territory would be empowered with N20, 000 for effective access to financial capital required for economic activities.
“A total number of 3, 400 beneficiaries are to benefit from the cash grant of N20, 000 each to uplift the socioeconomic status of rural women in Yobe State.
“It is our hope
that the beneficiaries of this programme will make good use of the opportunity to increase their income, enhance their food security, and contribute towards improving their living standard.
She expressed hope that with the support and cooperation of the governor and other stakeholders, President Buhari’s efforts towards lifting 100 million out of poverty by 2030 would be achievws.
