Relief as Katsina communities benefit from USBMC-SIP project

- From Tijani Ibrahim, Katsina

Residents of Kwankiron Jirgi and Kagana communities in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State are full of praises for the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, who attracted two blocks of classrooms for their children.

Residents told Arewa Trust Weekly that their children would no longer trek several kilometres amidst insecurity to attend school in neighbouring communities.

Malam Harisu Dayyabu of Kwankiro told our correspondent that most of their children had since dropped out of school for fear that they could be attacked on their way to school.

“We had a school here some years ago. When the building collapsed, our children would trek some kilometres to neigbouring communities, but with the activities of bandits, we no longer allow them go anywhere for fear of being kidnapped or even killed,” he said.

Another resident, Tanimu Lawal Kwankiro said there were at least 300 pupils that were hitherto attending schools in neigbouring communities but said with the recent construction of the classrooms, more students would now be enrolled.

In his remarks, Deputy Speaker Tafoki noted that the projects were secured through the Universal Basic Education (UBEC) School Based Management CommitteeSchool Improvement

Programme (SBMC-SIP) in which he paid counterpart funding.

He added that the toilets and furniture in the schools were provided by the state government while he donated whiteboards and markers to the new schools and 200 cartons of chalks to be distributed to schools across Faskari Local Government Area.
