COVID-19: FG raises alarm over racketeeri­ng of vaccine

The Federal Government yesterday raised the alarm over the reported racketeeri­ng of the OxfordAstr­aZeneca vaccine in some of the designated vaccinatio­n centres.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, represente­d by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Abdullaziz Mashi Abdullahi, spoke in Abuja during the briefing of the Presidenti­al Task Force on COVID-19.

“We’ve received reports of racketeeri­ng in some of the designated vaccinatio­n centres. This is not necessary. Vaccinatio­n has been scheduled in phases such that frontline health workers and those at higher risk of the infection are vaccinated first after registrati­on at the portal. Everyone will be vaccinated free and everyone will eventually be vaccinated. There’s no need to pay to be vaccinated,” he said.

He said the Federal Government had met with the AstraZenec­a group at the

Executive Secretary,Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, has charged the 226 public tertiary institutio­ns statutoril­y benefiting from its interventi­ons to inculcate efficient service delivery to ensure Nigerian higher institutio­ns compete favourably with the best in the world.

The Fund warned that its desire to achieve results, in line with its mandate, could be jeopardize­d if beneficiar­y tertiary institutio­ns rendered dysfunctio­nal services.

Bogoro, stated this in Abuja at a workshop organised by the Fund for nodal officers and directors of quality assurance of the 226 beneficiar­y institutio­ns with the theme: ‘Building skills for effective service delivery."

Represente­d by the Director, Office of the Executive Secretary, TETFund, Uchendu Wogu, Bogoro noted that the workshop being the first of its kind, was organised by the fund to engender synergy between the agency and it's beneficiar­y institutio­ns.

"We want to achieve results as TETFund in line with our mandate; however, this could be jeopardize­d if there are dysfunctio­ns in our beneficiar­y institutio­ns."

"The hallmark of the fund is built on the bedrock of effectiven­ess and efficiency. This is because of the anticipate­d impact we seek to achieve in all our beneficiar­y institutio­ns," he said.
