Jos socio-cultural group to showcase youths’ talent

- From Dickson S. Adama, Jos

A socio-cultural group, J-Town Ambassadors, has commenced the promotion of the talents of youths in the state.

The group was set up by some eminent personalities who lived and grew up in Jos in a bid to return the city to its former state where people, irrespective of their ethnoreligious differences, lived peacefully with one another.

They included Suleiman Abubakar, Emmanuel Oluoha, Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, Emmanuel Chollom, Suleiman Umar, Ogola Onazi and Odessa Chuwang.

At their first interface with a cross section of residents in Jos, the group hosted and showcased an automatic hand washing machine constructed by one Williams Gyang, a graduate of Plateau State Polytechnic, and Sunday Adenolajo David, a corps member serving in the polytechnic.

Gyang demonstrated to the gathering how the machine works. He said it was constructed to boost the health of citizens in this period of COVID-19 pandemic.

Gyang and his friend, Nura Jibrin, had in 2020 fixed two broken down ventilators (which they have never seen before) at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), at the height of the pandemic.

Similarly, Gyang, David and Jibrin constructed an automatic disinfectant chamber last year to also fight the pandemic.

The group’s chairman, Suleiman Abubakar, said they would also reach out to other talents in Jos and promote their products to the larger society.

“The J-Town Ambassadors has come at a time when our country is going through the challenge of simply living together as one community in peace, unity and with mutual respect for one another. We present a unique model.

“This has proven that we are an asset, which we will share across different generations, tribes, faiths and the larger communities in general. We will strive to achieve this through philanthropy, mentorship, strategic interventions in entrepreneurship, sports, digital technology, health and education,” he said.
