Police confirm death of two herders in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two herders in Dogondaji village of Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

Daily Trust on Tuesday reported how two herders who went in search of their missing cows were killed in the area where both the vigilantes and the police disagreed over those responsibl­e for the death of the herders.

Malam Nura Abdullahi, the state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Associatio­n of Nigeria (MACBAN), who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Monday, said the community leader of the area claimed that the vigilantes arrested the herders and handed them to the police but the police said they (herders) were not brought alive.

While confirming the incident, the command’s spokesman, Ubah Gabriel, said all the officers involved in the incident had been detained.

He said, “The Command is aware of the death of two herders in Bassa. The circumstan­ces in which they met their untimely death are yet unclear. Every personnel involved is under detention. There are also allegation­s that the deceased are some of the hoodlums disturbing the area. Meanwhile, discrete investigat­ion is ongoing.”

The state chairman of MACBAN added that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at Plateau Specialist Hospital and would be released after the circumstan­ces leading to their death were uncovered.

“The police are seriously on top of the situation. They have been working day and night to unravel the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the death. The police officers involved have been detained,” he said.
