Yobe to intensify sensitisation on COVID-19 vaccines
The Yobe State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture and member of the Committee on the Control and Prevention of COVID-19 pandemic, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, said the government would intensify campaigns on the safety and quality of Astra-Zeneca vaccines on radio and television, among other communication sources.
Bego who was responding to questions shortly after the Committee’s meeting in Damaturu said Yobe State Government has through its radio and television been enlightening the public on the quality and safety of the vaccine supplied.
He said the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni places a premium on the healthcare of its citizens, adding that this, among others, informed the decision of appointing a high powered committee led by the Deputy Governor to monitor and control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic since its outbreak.
“Yobe state Radio YBC and the state television YTV have been engaging experts from the relevant ministries and agencies, especially the Ministry of Health for them to enlighten the general public on the vaccine.
“The Hon. Commissioner of Health has made it clear that since the commencement of the vaccination exercise which targeted frontline workers, no adverse effect was reported across the state.
“His Excellency the Executive Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni, His Deputy Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, SSG and all other government personalities including myself have taken the Astra-Zenaca jabs with no adverse effect,” Bego said.
The Commissioner called on the people to disregard any misconception regarding the vaccine for better and healthy society.
