- From Tijjani Ibrahim, Katsina

The Katsina Elders Forum on Tuesday visited Governor Aminu Bello Masari at the Katsina Government House to commiserate with him over the fire incident that engulfed parts of Katsina central market.

In a letter signed by its Chairman Alhaji Aliyu Balarabe Saulawa and Secretary Alhaji Aliyu Sani Muhammad, the forum said the unfortunate incident had caused havoc and great loss to the traders.

“This unfortunate incident, no doubt, caused a lot of havoc that resulted into a great loss to our traders who contribute immensely to the economic activities of the state.

“We pray for Allah (SWT) to provide succour to the victims of this sad incident and give them the courage to bear the irreparable loss,” the letter read in part.

The forum also noted the immediate action taken by Governor Masari who instituted a panel of inquiry shouldered with the responsibility of unearthing the root cause of the inferno and to provide suggestions on how to prevent future occurrence.

“This has further confirmed your altruism in leadership and genuine concern for your citizens’ welfare,” the letter added.

In his response, Governor Masari said the inferno was unusual considering the time it broke out and how fast it spread and the level of damage caused despite all the efforts to put out the fire.

The governor then called on the traders affected to consider the lessons taught by the disaster and cooperate with the administrative committee of investigation put in place by giving genuine account of what they have lost.
