Yobe college students decry late release of results

- By Ibrahim Baba Saleh, Damaturu

Students and management staff of Umar Suleiman College of Education (USCOEGA) have appealed for the state government’s intervention on degree programmes of the institution.

One of the concerns raised by the students was on the late issuance of their results after graduation.

Muhammad Ali, one of the affected students disclosed that he did not receive his result after his graduation in 2019.

“Unlike our colleagues in other tertiary institutions, our results are always delayed for about two years in most cases.

“The development has affected the progress of our studies and deprived us from going to the one-year mandatory NYSC on time, so we want the state government’s urgent intervention.”

The Director of the Programme, Dr Abdulrahman Danladi, while responding, said the late issuance of results was caused by internal and external factors.

“The internal ranges from compilation system, which is being done with an obsolete software that requires subsequent conversion another second software.

“This greatly causes delay in the processing of our results and transcripts for onward submission to the university.

“As for the ways to overcome these challenges, new robust result software was developed which will greatly reduce the time and errors hitherto experienced with the initial software.

“Secondly, our staff are motivated to work harder to reduce the number of weeks it took us previously in the release of our results.

“With the new software, the work becomes easier and user friendly. I can assure you for the first time, we are able to produce academic status for returning students, which facilitated the registration exercise and the commencement of lectures as well.

Danaldi appealed to the state government to improve remuneration of the visiting lecturers, and teaching practice of the degree programmes.

Other areas they needed intervention was on field trips by the Biology, Chemistry and Geography students as well as induction at the French Village for French students.
