Police inspector dies after shootout with kidnappers in Abuja

Apolice inspector, Ambi John, attached to the Operation Puff Adder of the FCT Police Command has died of gunshot injuries sustained in a shootout with kidnappers at Anguwar Samu in Tungan-Maje, Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

Saidu, had told Daily Trust that the incident happened around 12am on Tuesday, when the gunmen, in their numbers, engaged a team of police and vigilante in a shootout.

The spokespers­on of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, who confirmed the death of the police officer in a statement in Abuja, on Tuesday, said the officer sustained bullets injuries while trying to foiled kidnap attempt by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday morning along Dankusa at Anguwar Zogele in TunganMaje, Gwagwalada area council of Abuja.

Yusuf, who also confirmed the abduction of four residents, said the deceased police inspector died from gunshot injuries while being attended to at the hospital.

She said the late police officer alongside other police operatives engaged the heavily armed hoodlums in a fierce gun battle.

“However, the command has launched a strategic operation to rescue four persons abducted from Dankusa still in custody of the hoodlums who escaped into the forest bordering the FCT and Niger State,” she said.

According to her, the operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad have made some arrests in connection with the abduction, even as she said the FCT commission­er of Police, Bala Ciroma, has commiserat­ed with the family of the officer who paid the supreme price in service to the Nation.
