Embrace waste-to-energy policy, Obasanjo tells Ogun Gov

- From Peter Moses, Abeokuta

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday urged Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to intensify efforts and partner with the various stakeholders in the waste management sector towards attaining waste to energy drive.

Obasanjo noted recycling of waste would generate energy for domestic and industrial use as well as compose manure for agricultural purposes.

He spoke on Wednesday while playing host to Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ola Oresanya, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo noted that Abiodun has shown his determination to bequeath a cleaner environment to the good people of Ogun state.

He, however, advised the governor and his administration to partner with the various stakeholders in the waste management sector so that the state can reap its efforts at making the environment clean.

“The energy so generated will be used for immediate communities where the recycling plants are generated thereby reducing over reliance on public utilities and move the nation towards industrial growth and sustainable development,”

Obasanjo said.

Obasanjo also expressed the OOPL’s preparedness to partner with OGWAMA in these key areas of environment and waste management.

Responding, Oresanya who is the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment said the governor had established OGWAMA as an enabler for employment generation and that so far over thirty thousand direct and indirect jobs have been generated.

He thereafter decorated Obasanjo as the Grand Patron of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA).
