Abaji chair stops parties from parading themselves as chief

The Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, has stopped two factions, Alhaji Ibrahim Yatsu and Alhaji Umar Idris from parading themselves as village chief of Kpokpolobi community in the area.

Daily Trust learnt that a fight broke out on Saturday morning, in Kpokpolobi community in Abaji, leaving three persons injured after two factions attacked each with cutlasses over disagreement on the venue to be used for Ramadan tafsir.

Alhaji Ajiya, speaking when he summoned the two factions for a meeting in his office, which had representatives of the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, DPO, DSS and NSCDC, condemned the incident.

He said it was unfortunate that though the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, had set-up a committee to look into the chieftaincy issue, the two rivals and their supporters had to raise tension in the community.

“I can’t imagine this chieftaincy tussle has been lingering since 2005, when you people migrated from Kogi to come and settle here in FCT. So I want to make it categorically clear today that both parties laying claim should henceforth stop parading themselves as chief of Kpokpolobi community until further notice,” he said.

The council chairman also stopped the community from holding Ramadan tafsir, saying taking such decision would forestall breakdown of law and order not only in the community but the entire council.

“This Ramadan period is a period that we should all be submissive and worship Allah, but I was disappointed when I heard that fight broke out in Kpokpolobi community where some youths attacked each other with cutlasses over who controls the venue that will be used for Ramadan tafsir,” he said.
