Calm returns to Ngbo as vigilante group gets N20m

Calm has gradually returned to Umuogodo-Akpu Ngbo community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, two weeks after gunmen attacked and killed some people in Otuebu and Obodo Ocha villages.

At least six persons were murdered and properties worth millions of naira burnt during the attack on April 12.

South East Trust learnt that some of the people, who fled the villages, have started returning as the state government has vowed to ensure there is no repeat of the incident.

The state Governor, David Umahi, who assured the people of Ngbo that such ugly attacks would not happen again, gave N20 million for the formation of a vigilante group in the community.

The governor also gave extra N20 million to rehabilita­te the victims of the attack.

“Security investigat­ions have revealed that the killings and destructio­n of properties meted against the people of Umuogodoak­pu Mgbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area on the 12th day of April 2021 was by Agila community through the conduit of the herdsmen.

“The community attacked by herdsmen through the conduits of Agila community will receive a cheque of Twenty Million Naira (N20,000,000.00) to be given to the families of the victims and Twenty Million Naira (N20,000,000.00) to be given for the procuremen­t of security outfits for their local vigilante, making a total sum of Forty Million Naira (N40,000,000.00) donation from the State government.

“We decided to do this on our own as A state while we keep waiting for the federal government to send theirs”, he explained.
